Book Description:
A dark and moving novel about the mystery surrounding a teenage girl’s fatal overdose.

There was something about Ellie… Something dangerous. Charismatic. Broken. Jake looked out for her. Sarah followed her lead. And Jess kept her distance, and kept watch.

Now Ellie’s dead, and Jake, Sarah, and Jess are left to pick up the pieces. All they have are 34 clues she left behind. 34 strips of paper hidden in a box beneath her bed. 34 secrets of a brief and painful life.

Jake, Sarah, and Jess all feel responsible for what happened to Ellie, and all three have secrets of their own. As they begin to confront the darkest truths about themselves, they will also find out what Ellie herself had been hiding all along….

I will start out by saying this book was read in a day. I am a sucker for a happy ending and I had to get through this dark novel to find just a smidge of a silver lighting, but alas it never came. This book defines almost every problem teenage girls can encounter. It covers cutting, drugs both prescription and illegal, eating disorders, and peer pressure. It was brilliantly written and although it is ominous it is very captivating. Your heart goes out to all of the characters. Each chapter is written in a different characters perspective. I believe this gives you a better insight on each character and helps you define each individual issue, and how all of their lives have been spun out of control. This book is classified as young adult; however I don’t know if I would be okay with my teenage daughter reading this. Maybe from a mother’s view I would want to protect my children of ever feeling the way the kids in this book do, but it would also serve as a good lesson. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars.

That is so sad to hear you didn’t find a silver lining in this book. That is always hard to see in a dark book, but sometimes the silver lining wouldnt help. With all of the character pov, did you find it confusing? Great Review.

    • Thanks for your comment Liz. The character pov was not confusing at all. The author does a great job identifying everything going on. I think you are right about the silver lining. It would have ruined the mood if the book had it ended with a happy ending. ~Nessa

    • Thanks for your comment Liz! I’m sorry I am just getting around to responding to you. I have had some technical difficulties. The character pov was not confusing at all. The author does a great job identifying everything that is happening and who’s point of it is coming from. I think you are right about the silver lining. It would have ruined the mood of the book if it had a happy ending. Thanks for taking the time to read out blog!
