Søren Kierkegaard was born in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1813. He was the youngest of seven children and his father was a wealthy businessman. He studied theology at the University of Copenhagen and was ordained as a priest in 1840. He wrote extensively on philosophy, theology, and literature, and his works are often seen as being ahead of their time. He is best known for his works Either/Or, Fear and Trembling, and The Sickness Unto Death. He died in 1855 at the age of 42.
