Should you take little ones to signings?
If anyone has ever seen me at a signing, or book event, then you’ve seen me with one of my two kidlets. Or, maybe even both.
It’s not something I see a ton of, unless you’re at a YA event. I sometimes get questioning looks when I bring my youngest, but I really don’t care. She loves going to signings with me. It doesn’t matter if it’s YA, MG, or Romance. She feeds off the awesome energy of the room. She’s practically the blog mascot. She even has her own little shirt.
One of the reasons I take her, besides her being practically attached to me at all times, is so I can show her that she can reach her dreams. If she has a passion, and pursues it, then anything is possible. And what better way than to have her be in the presence of authors who have done that? These people who have poured their blood, sweat, and tears into their words.
I’m not going to lie, it does get overwhelming for her at times, and she has to take a break. But for the most part, she enjoys it almost as much as I do. So, if you ever see her in her little Bookish Things shirt, come say hello. Or don’t… because she may end up talking your ear off. She’s a spunky little gal.
What do you think? Should you take kiddos to signings? Have you? Let me know in the comments.
