Blogging: How I blog while traveling

Posted May 10, 2017 by Katrina @ Bookish Things in Blogging / 1 Comment

I don’t really travel a whole bunch, but when I do, I like to stay connected to the blog in case anything happens.  I was out of town once and a post didn’t go live when it was supposed to and I started freaking out.  It was a small hitch in my day, and I didn’t like that feeling.

Most of you know I schedule my posts pretty far in advance. I like to have it done so that I don’t have to worry about it later.  But there are times when a glitch happens like the one above.  I have plans in place for that now.

First thing… I have the WordPress app on my phone.  I can always check to make sure that the post was pushed over to publish. It also helps me when I have comments that need to be approved, or replied to. I can easily tap a button, and bam… done.

I’ve also started taking my chromebook with me.  It’s super light, doesn’t take up too much space, and fast when I need it to be. I didn’t set up my Sunday Post when I was in New Orleans last year, and having my chromebook allowed me to get it done quickly.

And then there’s always the whole what if I get ideas when I’m not around my normal space dilemma. I carry a notebook with me for just such an occasion.  But, I also use the notes app in my phone a lot. If I can’t get to my notebook fast enough, it’s a lot easier to put it into my phone, and I won’t forget my thoughts.

How do you blog when you’re traveling? Do you schedule your posts ahead of time? Let me know in the comments.

  1. The past year has been the first time I’ve ever really traveled, but I usually take a break from blogging and resume things when I get back. But all of my trips are less than a week. I suppose I would be different about it if I traveled for long periods of time. I also have the wordpress app so I can manage some stuff on the go, which is nice.
