Falling out of love with a series
It happens to the best of us. We absolutely love a series. We are part of the fandom. We buy all kinds of bookish awesomeness that go with it. We keep reading until we hit that one book in the series, or maybe it’s even a few books toward the end, and we just don’t really care anymore.
It could be many things that make us slowly start falling out of love with the series. The writing style could have changed. Or, maybe the characters are starting to get on your nerves. The story could also have gone way into left field, and you just don’t see how it’s going to come back around.
I’m not going to lie, this has happened to me with a few series. I’m all pumped up, ready to tackle the next book, and then bam…the next book has me shaking my head. I sit there and mutter to myself, “what the hell did I just read?” Then, I decide I’ll read the next book. Maybe it’ll be better than whatever mess that was. Only, I’m let down once again. At that point, I don’t want to continue. I’m done with the characters, the plot, and anything that has to do with that book.
I really hate when that happens. I love being a part of fandoms and gushing over all the words I just read with others that love it, too. And when others are still raving about that series, I start feeling like maybe it’s me. I just have to remember that reading is personal. I’m not going to like every book that my friends like. And I know I won’t like every book they recommend.
It’s okay to fall out of love with a book, or world. That doesn’t mean it’s any less amazing, it’s just that it’s no longer for you.
