Discussion: Why PNR is my pick me up…

Have you ever gotten into a reading slump? You know those days that you just can’t bring yourself to pick up a book, and stare at nothing for hours on end contemplating life. I think I may be the only one that stares into space. But we’ve all been there.  We get in these little funks and nothing we read seems to be bring us out of it.

When those moments happen to me I tend to go to one of my favorite genres: Paranormal Romance.

There’s just something about diving into a world with characters that have unique identities and abilities.  I sometimes read some of my old favorites like The Morganville Vampire series, and other books like that. Or, I take the opportunity to catch up on that series that I’ve been meaning to get back to.

The characters always have inner battles, as well as actual problems that could destroy their existence.  I love being in that “how in the hell are we going to fix this” mode. The female characters are strong, fierce, and take no shit.

I use PNR to remind myself of that very same message.  I’m strong, fierce, and can do anything. Maybe that’s why when I’m in a slump I tend to gravitate to these books.

What about you? Do you have a genre that you go to when you’re in a slump or just need to get to a happy place? Let me know in the comments.

I'm a mom of two and love to read, listen to music, and rock out at concerts. Sometimes you can find me reading, or writing, in between sets at concerts. I read many genres, and have a TBR mountain.
