From the author of Maybe in Another Life—named a People Magazine pick and a "Best Book of the Summer" by Glamour and USA Today—comes a breathtaking new love story about a woman unexpectedly forced to choose between the husband she has long thought dead and the fiancé who has finally brought her back to life.
In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.
On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.
Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.
That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.
Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?
Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.
When you pick up a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, you know you are going to get a story that plucks at your heartstrings and will make you think. One True Loves is no different.
Emma is put in an impossible situation when she finds out the husband she thought was dead at sea as been found, and she is engaged to another man. I couldn’t imagine being in the position she is in. And I definitely don’t envy her for it.
I love that we get the story leading up to her love with Jesse and then after with Sam. Both times make you realize just how important love is in your life, and how sometimes you can find a love just as amazing as the love you previously had. I loved seeing Emma grow up and then grow into herself. There are things she felt as a teen and in her twenties that she no longer feels in her early thirties. I think that’s the most important thing. We change and our love changes, things can’t always be the same.
We also get the story of what happens when Jesse comes back. As much as he wants things to be the same, they can and they can’t be. It’s heartbreaking to see him try so hard, and to not handle what happened to him all those years well. And Sam… well, he’s an incredible man. And you’ll see why when you read this book.
As always, Reid’s writing is beautiful. It captures you and pulls you into the story. You feel all the emotions her characters feel. You empathize and want everything to be okay for all of the lives the story covers.
One True Loves is a fantastic read, and I can’t wait to see what y’all think about it!
