I started reading The Last Thirteen (book one, 13) so that I would know what I was recommending to my customers. I had no idea that I would really enjoy it! It starts off a little slow, but it turns into an action packed book! Dreams become reality in this awesome YA read.

Sam’s life has turned upside down because of one dream he’s had. After a kidnapping, shocking revelations about his family, and finding out he is wanted by more than just his kidnappers, Sam is stuck between a rock and hard place. He has the difficult task of being one of the last thirteen. A group of dreamers who dream how to save the world from a villain who wants to have all the power, while dodging an organization that wants the dreamers so they can have all the economic gain of their dreaming abilities. Friends from the Academy try to guide the way, but Sam doesn’t know what to do! Should he fight and do what’s right, or run? What happens if he chooses run? Fight? Only his dreams will tell.

What I loved most about Sam and his adventure was the uncertainty. You couldn’t predict what was going to happen next. You stayed on the edge of your seat. I also loved that this is a book I could share with my son. Being an advanced reader it’s sometimes hard to find YA books that don’t have inappropriate material for a nine year old, but can also be enjoyed by an adult as well. This book really can span for all age groups. I can’t officially give a full review of the whole series until I finish reading it, but so far it is definitely working it’s way to the top ten of my favorite YA series!

The series counts down starting with 13 counting down to 1. It’s a quick read with 207 pages, and a cliffhanger of an ending! I can’t wait for book two (number 12).  If you want to order this book you need an Usborne Books and More consultant. If you don’t already have one, you can order from me here: If you already have a consultant call and order today!
