She is the greatest assassin her world has ever known. But does she have the heart of a killer? After a year of hard labor in the Salt Mines of Endovier, eighteen-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien has won the king's contest to become the new royal assassin. But Calaena is far from loyal to the crown. Keeping up the charade - while pretending to do the king's bidding - will test her skills in an entirely new way. And it certainly isn't the only point of confusion for the young girl. Because though she's made her choice between Dorian and Chaol, the ways of the heart are never simple...

Oh Chaol, how do I love you? Let me count the ways.

I was a big fan of Chaol in the first book, and this one just makes me adore him even more.  Calaena is also pretty awesome.  Dorian…. I have mixed feelings about him.  But not because he’s not completely endearing.  I just think he needs to stand up for what he thinks is right instead of backing down every time his father glares at him.

There is so much drama in this book.  We get hints that the king is planning something awful.  But we don’t exactly know what it is.  Celaena also finds out some things, and I actually assumed as much since the first book. Dorian is thrown into a new situation that he doesn’t know how to handle. And Chaol, well…. he’s just Chaol.  Constantly battling between his loyalty to the king, and his emotions.

I loved everything about this book, and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this world.
