I’m so excited to have Teri Anne Stanley on the blog today!!! Her latest book Drunk on You is out now, and is amazing. It’s everything you can want in a book, and follows a family in the Bourbon business. Please give a warm welcome to Teri!!!
Kitchen Adventures with a Fast Food Author
One of the interesting things about my research for the Bourbon Boys series is that I don’t drink alcohol. And my husband drinks beer, but he generally stays away from hard liquor (we both kind of used up our share in our misspent youth, and it just goes better for the world if we stay away).
So when I said, “Guess what, honey! My next books are going to be about BOURBON!” he just kind of looked at me. Then he fired up the big red truck and we drove to the Buffalo Trace Distillery for a tour.
Fortunately, there were some nice soldiers there, on leave from Fort Campbell, willing to take the free samples of whiskey off of my hands.
The bourbon balls, however…now that was another thing. I mean…there’s only enough actual alcohol in one bourbon ball to affect a fruit fly. I did the math. I’m a scientist in my other life, you know. I can figure these things out.
So when it came time to come up with a clever recipe to go with my book, I didn’t go for cocktails that I’d never sample…I thought…what about bourbon balls? But Allie’s not selling bourbon in Drunk on You, she’s promoting white dog, which is the raw whiskey, before it’s aged. So I decided to mess around in the kitchen, and see what I could come up with.
But I don’t cook very often. So rarely, that when I get a skillet out, the kids ask if we’re having company. So it took a few tries to get this one right.
For example: you have to dissolve the little instant coffee granules BEFORE you add it to the chocolate mixture, or you get whiskey fudge with lots of little chunks of “HOLY CRAP, COFFEE!” flavor all over the place.
So here you go: Coffee and white whiskey flavored truffles. AKA Brown Dog Balls.

there’s a recipe, you can try it yourself!
I’m still working on the tequila/lime possum balls to go along with book two. Interestingly, the accidental substitution of blueberry pancake mix for powdered sugar had some interesting results.
Book Title: DRUNK ON YOU
Author: TERI ANNE STANLEY
Release Date: July 21, 2015
Genre: Contemporary (Lovestruck)
Justin Morgan would happily drown the pain of his injured leg—and the guilt he brought back from Afghanistan—in bourbon. Except, there won’t be any booze if he doesn’t rescue his family’s century-old distillery from financial ruin. The problem? Allie McGrath—youngest daughter of the distillery’s co-owners, and the one woman he can’t have.
Allie has been in love with Justin since…well, she’s always been in love with him. Now he’s home, broken up over the death of her brother, and he needs help. She can fix the distillery—she’s sure of it—but no one’s taking her or her sweet new idea seriously. Convincing Justin is her only hope.
Allie is more tempting than Justin expected, threatening a promise he swore he’d never break. If he can’t keep their attraction under control, there’s a solid chance they’ll send the whole enterprise crumbling to the ground…if he doesn’t crash and burn first.
