Series Rating:

In the e-only companion to Molly Cochran’s Legacy and Poison, Kaity Ainsworth learns that wishes come with consequences.

On Walpurgisnacht, where it is said that fairies abound, Katy meets a troubled fairy who must grant her every wish. But her wish for Peter to love her madly quickly backfires when he follows her around obsessively and weeps over her inattention. So Katy tries a different approach—but a wish for popularity brings about trouble as well. Can her good intentions make up for the misfortune and disappointment that seem to follow every wish? Katy must battle the magic of the Fairy Queen and her henchman to undo the spells—but can she truly repair the damage she’s done?

Review

Wishes is a novella than can be a complete stand alone from the Legacy series. I haven’t read the previous books, and I really enjoyed this companion.

Katy thinks making wishes will fix everything for her. But sometimes it can be too much. I like that she was able to learn from the events that take place. After reading this, I want to star the rest of the series. It seems like Katy has a way of getting herself caught up in crazy things.

The Ballad of Katy and Peter
A Playlist

By Molly Cochran
Author of Wishes

Track One: Just Give Me A Reason by Pink and Nate
Katy Ainsworth is sick and tired of coming second—or third, or fourth—in her boyfriend Peter’s busy life, and starts imagining that he’s feeling smothered by her.

Track Two: Happy by Pharrel Williams
In a weird turn of events, Katy finds a box in the woods with a message inside reading “Your Wish Will Come True”.

Track Three: Love Potion Number Nine by The Searchers
She forgets about the curious little box until she visits a fortune teller at a fair. Brokenhearted over Peter’s lack of attention, she wishes out loud that Peter would love her beyond all reason.

Track Four: Every Breath You Take by The Police
The wish comes true, but the effect is disastrous. Peter loves her, all right: He can’t leave her alone. As he camps outside her door, sobbing with unrequited love, Katy begins to feel like she’d like some time alone.

Track Five: Dark Horse by Katy Perry
Anxious to cancel her wish and turn Peter back into the lackadaisical lover he used to be, Katy seeks out the author of the magical note in the box and finds a sullen Goth girl who happens to be, of all things, a fairy.

Track Six: Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars
As it turns out, the fairy can’t cancel Katy’s wish, but she can exchange it for another, which brings its own problems, leading to Katy’s getting kicked out of school and friendless as well.

Track Seven: Thunderstruck by AC/DC
The only solution to Katy’s problem lies with the fairy’s queen, a powerful being with the face of an angel and a heart of stone. But Katy has never backed down from confrontation, and when she realizes that the only way to get rid of her wishes is to do battle with the evil queen, even if it means that one of them will be destroyed.

Bonus Track: Katy’s favorite song
If you’ve read the Legacy books, you already know what this is.
