On the precipice of her sixteenth birthday, the last thing lone wolf Cat Crawford wants is an extravagant gala thrown by her bubbly stepmother and well-meaning father. So even though Cat knows the family’s trip to Florence, Italy, is a peace offering, she embraces the magical city and all it offers. But when her curiosity leads her to an unusual gypsy tent, she exits . . . right into Renaissance Firenze.
Thrust into the sixteenth century armed with only a backpack full of contraband future items, Cat joins up with her ancestors, the sweet Alessandra and protective Cipriano, and soon falls for the gorgeous aspiring artist Lorenzo. But when the much-older Niccolo starts sniffing around, Cat realizes that an unwanted birthday party is nothing compared to an unwanted suitor full of creeptastic amore. Can she find her way back to modern times before her Italian adventure turns into an Italian forever?
I bought My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century back in May. I have no idea why it took me so long to read it. I love the characters that Rachel Harris created, and I want/need more of them. I finished this book in a day, and I may have put off household duties to do it. 😀
I haven’t read many historical books, especially ones for teens, but this one was perfect. I especially love the time travel part of it. It helps add the wonder into everything that is going on. Cat is a great character, she’s grown up in the spotlight but tries to keep herself hidden. She doesn’t want to turn into someone that needs attention all the time. It also makes it pretty hard when your mom is on the cover of a magazine for whatever scandal. I loved all the secondary characters also. Less is definitely my favorite. She’s so sweet, but is always on Cat’s side, and helps her figure things out while she’s in the 16th century. Lorenzo is definitely swoonworthy. He’s the artistic type, and just very dreamy. There’s really no other words to describe him.
Cat isn’t sure why she’s been sent back in time, but she’s going to enjoy it since it’s her favorite era. She learns a lot about herself, and what family means. Things she struggles with in her current life. She also learns what it’s like to let people in and become friends. Cat doesn’t know when she’s going to go back to her time period, but finally decides to live life to the fullest. She sees things in the Renaissance era that she doesn’t agree with and is glad that things changed. There are a few things that happen that could change history, but it’s pretty great.
Now the ending is what’s going to get you saying, “what” You’ll need to go out and get the next book immediately. It’s such a perfect ending.
My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century is a sweet, and fun read. It has all the elements you want for a good time, without a ton of heavy stuff. Definitely check this one out!
